World Pest Day
When you think of life-altering technology, pest control may not be the first thing that comes to mind. However, technological and scientific advancements have played an invaluable role in supporting humans’ health and quality of life for millennia.
World Pest Day 2023 is the perfect time to honor the pest control industry. These heroes are all too often overlooked, yet they continue to play a pivotal role in protecting public health and preserving ecosystems.
To celebrate, let’s take a closer look at what World Pest Day represents and why it matters so much. Learn a little more about USX Pest Control and our environmentally friendly pest control services that protect people, pets, and Mother Nature.
What Is World Pest Day?
World Pest Day is a global initiative launched on June 6, 2017. The idea originated with the Chinese Pest Control Association, and it received support from the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) in the U.S. Along with the Federation of Asian and Oceania Pest Managers and the Confederation of European Pest Management Associations, the group formed the Global Pest Management Coalition.
After kicking off the first World Pest Day in 2017, it became a yearly opportunity to increase public awareness. It’s also an excellent time to explore the threats that even tiny pests pose and promote responsible pest management around the world.
Why Is Pest Control Important?
We often hear about having the worst tick season or a new pest-borne disease that could spread serious illnesses among people and pets. Vector-borne diseases — the pathogens that spread by living organisms — increase as humans spread across the globe and climate change expands the reach of insects like fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.
In addition to spreading diseases, pests can also damage property, building structures, and crops. Even with modern pest control technology and strategies, pests destroy up to 40% of crops around the world. Statistics from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), show that pests cost people and businesses $70 billion or more worldwide every year.
These staggering numbers underscore the pivotal role that pest control professionals play in keeping food production on track and maintaining global health. Using professional pest control services helps protect homes, businesses, and so much more.
Raising Awareness Through Tailored Pest Control Services
USX Pest was founded by the founders of Catseye Pest Control, a leader in the industry for more than 35 years. USX Pest brings that experience and expertise to service locations in Western Massachusetts and Upstate New York.
We also bring a commitment to providing exceptional service and supporting healthy ecosystems with environmentally friendly services that are safer for people and pets. Using an integrated pest management (IPM) approach, our trained, licensed technicians provide safe, effective pest control solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
The USX Pest four-step approach is the same whether our clients are dealing with insects like bed bugs, ticks, or ants; rodents like mice and rats; or nuisance wildlife.
Inspection
Technicians begin by inspecting every square inch of the property, both indoors and outside. The details of the inspection inform the tailored strategy for treating, removing, and preventing infestations.
Identification
Before we can effectively treat pests, rodents, and wildlife, it’s essential to know exactly what is infesting the premises. Our knowledgeable staff can identify insects, rodents, and wildlife. We also determine how and why they are entering the property and how to prevent it.
Treatment
Our expert technicians target elimination strategies for the pests infesting the space. This allows us to choose the most effective treatment option, including:
- Biological pest control relies on introducing natural predators to quickly get control of the population.
- Physical pest control relies on removing food and water sources and adding barriers like our Rodent and Wildlife Exclusion Systems. We also use traps and other physical methods to eliminate that specific pest.
- Cultural pest control makes the property less favorable to deter pests from taking up residence.
Ongoing Monitoring
When we partner with our clients, it enhances our ability to keep properties pest-free. Ongoing monitoring and regular preventive services can catch pest infestations before they grow out of control and prevent them from ever occurring.
